If you’re planning a destination wedding in Melbourne, choosing the right venue can feel overwhelming — especially when you’re not based here. I’m a Melbourne wedding photographer, and I’ve photographed weddings across the city and the Yarra Valley for years. These are venues I actually enjoy shooting at — not just because they look good, but because the light, flow, and overall experience really work on a wedding day.
Here are 4 of my favourite Melbourne wedding venues, especially for overseas couples who want beautiful photos and a smooth, stress-free day.
1. Campbell Point House — Quiet, Romantic, and So Worth the Drive
🚗 Around 90 minutes from Melbourne CBD
Every time I photograph a wedding at Campbell Point House, I know exactly where I want to start — the staircase with the massive art wall.
If you’ve seen photos from this venue, you’ll know the one. The grand staircase is framed by a huge contemporary art piece, and it’s honestly one of the most unique indoor photo spots in Victoria.
It works beautifully for:
Bridal portraits
Couple photos
First look moments
Editorial-style wedding shots
What I love as a photographer is how effortless it is. You don’t need to pose much — the scale of the stairs and the artwork already do the talking. Even on a cloudy or windy day, this spot guarantees strong, timeless images.
Outside, the venue feels calm and private, with water views and manicured gardens that make the whole day slow down in the best way. For destination couples, it’s perfect if you want everything in one location — ceremony, reception, and portraits — without rushing between places. If you’re after a venue that feels European, artistic, and intentionally designed for photography, Campbell Point House is hard to beat.
2. Stones of the Yarra Valley — Yes, That Venue You’ve Seen on Instagram
🚗 About 1 hour from Melbourne CBD
Stones of the Yarra Valley is one of the most popular wedding venues in Melbourne — especially among couples from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and other Asian countries.
What makes it unique is the combination of heritage stone buildings, open lawns, and vineyard scenery, which feels very different from typical city venues in Asia. Many overseas couples choose Stones because it offers a true Australian vineyard wedding experience in one location, without complicated travel on the wedding day.
The venue also gained strong recognition in Asia after Hong Kong artist Yu Man Lok held his wedding here, making it widely shared on social media. Since then, I’ve had many destination couples tell me this was the first Melbourne venue they saved.
From a photography perspective, Stones is incredibly versatile — clean architecture, natural light, and wide landscapes all in one place. It’s also very experienced with overseas and multicultural weddings, which makes planning from abroad much easier.
3. Zonzo Estate — Sunset Heaven & the Best Night Party Photos
🚗 Around 1 hour 10 minutes from Melbourne CBD
If you care about sunset photos and night dancing shots, Zonzo Estate is a dream.Golden hour here is incredible — rolling hills, warm light, and open space that makes couples feel relaxed in front of the camera. I’ve captured some of my favourite sunset portraits at Zonzo, especially when couples sneak out for 10 minutes during reception. And once the sun goes down? This venue turns into a full-on party — fairy lights, music, energy.
As a photographer, it’s one of the best places for: Natural sunset portraits. Fun, candid dance floor moments. A lively, joyful atmosphere. Perfect if you want romance and a big celebration.
4. Vue on Halcyon — My Honest Recommendation for Melbourne Weather
🚗 About 1 hour from Melbourne CBD
Let’s be real — Melbourne weather is unpredictable. I’ve photographed weddings with sunshine, rain, wind… sometimes all in one day 😅That’s why I really like Vue on Halcyon for destination weddings.
Their indoor ceremony space is genuinely beautiful, not just a “backup option you hope not to use.”From experience:The indoor space has great natural lightIt still feels elegant and intentional in photosYou won’t feel stressed if it rainsFor overseas couples who don’t want weather anxiety while planning from afar, this venue gives serious peace of mind.
